Hi Everyone, just joined!
Now then, our 05 GTi (only 16k on clock) started saying service due in 6800 miles time. Then it went in for MOT at main dealer, after which they said they'd updated the software. Now it says service NOW!
Should I smell a rat? ;)

is this for the first or second service?
-
was it warning you that you had a service coming in over 6000 miles ?, or did you check ?
-
is this for the first or second service?
must be at least second, 05 would be aprox 3 years old
-
This would be its second. I think I took it for it's first before it even started asking, actually.

did it ask at 6k this time ?

did it ask at 6k this time ?
Yep
-
is that normal ?, 6k seems alot of advance warning, especially when you only do about 5k a year
-
It doesn't sound right does it. In truth, the matter is open to debate here. The Mrs swears it was 6000, whereas I was ignoring it :)
-
LOL, i hope you get sorted, to be fair only 2 service in 3 years sounds about right, mine is looking at not even lasting a year !!, perhaps go back to the dealers and explain, see what they say, you may get a deal, or get it sorted
-
Cheers, I suppose I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the warranty update to the software - eg what it fixed or adjusted?
-
This exact same thing happened to me. When i was at 20K it said 2000 miles to service, and then the following day it tells me SERVICE NOW.
-
Mine is on a long life services (its an 05 model) its due a service after 2 years or 20k (which I had last march, as in March 07). Its next service is due in March 09 or If i get to 40k before then, which I probably will do.
Hope this helps.

I guess it's not possible to plug a laptop in and see what it's actually saying in there? Wouldn't it be good if the GTi had wireless and appeared on the home network as another device that you could browse to :)

I'm sure that will come....

I doubt it, that would be too easy and mean that we wouldn't have to go to VW and spent £xx on them doing a diagnostics.
