Title: UK / Europe spec ed 30, any difference
Post by: gary555 on 21 May 2008, 14:24
does any one know if the European spec/ German for the ED 30 is any different to the UK spec, Ive been talking to motor point they have ED30 5 door new at £19.999 but its import from Germany , can purchase extra years warranty £300. so would be on the road £20750, !! also can front arm rests be retro fitted as none fitted to this motor.i know resale value will be affected but i intend to keep.

Only differences are the built-in machine guns, revolving numbers plates and ejector seats.

Thats not a 3rd year manufacturers warranty though is it ... just something to bear in mind as cover is not always the same.

Apart from that I dont think on the later cars there was any difference, some early GTi's MP had only had Air-Con not climate.

Resale will be affected coz it's a euro import (just has a stigma attached)...
but also, VW UK have said they are issuing UK Ed30s with Ltd Ed numbers now, I don't think this includes euro cars... this may have an effect on resale too as someone _may_ pay more for a proper UK numbered car.

As I posted recently on another thread, I have a German import Ed30

The main things to check for UK spec are as follows (only the puncture repair kit was different on mine, as well as German manual booklets :embarassed:)

1. Spacesaver spare wheel (some imports have a puncture repair kit, including my current German ED 30 import, now swapped)
2. The alarm is full UK spec with internal alarm - my car OK)
3. Rear speakers (some imports just have front speakers - but not many reports of this)
4. Headlight settings (some Danish imports had the headlights set on like Volvos )
5. Sometimes you get get Cruise Control &/or Highline as freebies on imports  - dealer won't realise this
5. Foreign language manuals

Have a look at the service book and see where the PDI was done and what the date was.  Check out the history.  Most imports are fine, but there were a few that had been stored for a year before being sold in the UK - allegedly Motorpoint and Motordepot were the sellers of these I believe

Check the VIN number and enter it into this website and you'll get some useful info :

http://www.abvwc.org.uk/vw_vin.htm

You get the full two years UK warranty from the date of the PDI stamp.  Get the car registered with VW UK asap after you receive V5.

At the end of the day they are all built at the same factory.

I would'nt bother with the 3rd year warranty from Motorpoint....just buy a VW one after 1 year and 11 months if you still want one then (around £450)

Good luck with the purchase ... what colour is it ?  ... good price even if basic spec  :smug:

Arm rest can be retrofitted easily without rear air vents at back connected.  Try it without armrest first ... much better for bottle / cup holder space without
