basically
bought my mk4
on the 10th
so its 10 days old
so far.... the screen to the onboard computer goes blank (y'know where the mpg is, the lcd screen is all lit up so i cant read anything)
the clutch slips- been told its the hydraulics
when i switch the engine on theres a kinda squeeling grinding noise.... i thought it sounded like a bearing- cos thats what a similar noise was in my old car
and finally the brakes are squeaking a bit
now im within my 30 day warranty
but clutch- wear and tear
brakes- wear and tear
yeah the noise might get fixed.. and they need to see the screen going blank-- and its intermittant
i'm stuck now as the garage is in leeds.. and im in stoke (good 50 miles away)
thought i had an amazing car cos the colour i have in 3dr gti is so rare...
now im finding a fault every couple of days
has anyone discovered similar problems on their cars
i mean the cars done about 80k but thats nothing for a dub
gutted to say the least.
help :-(

ps: ive already gone to trading standards.. and the cars booked in with a franchise garage tomorrow
but
the car was bought from evans helshaw ford.
and the one im taking it to is evans helshaw citroen
so neither of them will be of full knowledge of a vw
ARGH!

best bet go to shell get a £30 of petrol smash ure drivers window and torch it then ring directline.

warranty should of cover every parts of ur vehicle for at 30 days .... and then wear and tear policy wil come into play at a certain time not sure when tho

well the closest you can with a car
we'll see what the garage say tomorrow
but surely the car is what.. 11 days old when they get it back
they cant accuse wear and tear

is by law the garage have to fix it ........ anymore fault on the caer u can fnd and tell the garage fix it at the same time ....

True Story: The garage chain you mentioned and a similar style Scottish chain have a policy where they take a car in, their mechanics identify the faults with it, then they will spend approx £150 on repairs. Its up to the customer then to find the things they didn't fix within the (short) warranty period.
Too late to tell you avoid like the plague. If you bought it on credit you have a lot more protection and you're doing the right thing in getting Trading Standards involved. Take pictures of the dodgy screen whenever it happens and use that. Personally I'd be tempted to either reject the car or get them to agree to let VW do the repairs at their cost, although you have to give them the opportunity to do the repairs themselves.

i'm sitting in weatherspoons on the free wifi haha
so basically I explained it to the lady on the service desk
and seriously batley ford are in deep doo-doo
when a car has high milage they are meant to check for everything
so because im sayin the cars foooooked- and ive described the problems, theyve given me deepest sympathy!
they will get one hell of a commendation if this works out
i described the fault with the dash on screen-
and the lady said yeah vw's suffer with that
if thats the case, it will need to go to vw and be at least £700 cost to batley ford
KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR ME
also, while driving, theres a knocking
which adds another one to my list of faulty
lets see how it goes on eh

good luck, hope you take them to the cleaners for this, no1 should have all these problems in the 1st 10 days and i believe if u have it on credit u can cancel the agreement up till the 14th day so if they dont wanna fix it then let them have the car back and go get another somewhere else. :afro:

nope traded in my fiesta and paid cash
cant get finance at 19 years old cos i just get failed for credit (even got failed for a £300 overdraft by my bank.. whom ive been with 8 years and currently have a nice phat wage going in... i swear they only let you have debt if youve already got 1000 store cards and a 15k loan!)
talkin to my mate whos a dub enthusiast and he recons take em to the cleaners
cos when the car goes to vw to have a full check, they will pick up on any faults and fix them too
gutted cos ive got no car, might have to get insured on my mums ibiza 2.0
basically the same car anyway
*sigh*

ive been taken for a ride because theyve known im young :(

Chin ip. at least it look slike this lot are on your side and gonna help you out with the ford dealer. Could have been far worse.

o well the egg will be on there face when they have to fork out on vw doing all the work to but it right and the best thing is it will be done with genuine parts and not universal cr*p they would use being ford garage :afro:

ill still have 2 weeks within my 30 day warranty by the time its "sorted"

so... ive signed a runabouts disclaimer
meaning only the engine and gearbox is covered
either way.. the cars got a fault
theyre gonna fix it
had a chat with the regional director
and the resolutions guy at the garage
they are not getting rid of me
well out of order if they actually leave me with a lemon
cant get my fiesta back
wait til the dude at the garage rings back. and then i'll go back to trading standards.
off to do a bit of shopping
wish me luck
be back at half 8 ish if i cant get the day off work

Good luck, hope you get it all sorted!! My computer display thing is also broken, it works, but you can't see anything. Can you let me know if they manage to fix yours, so I know what to do with mine?

front axel bushes?
rear suspension bushes
clutch
starter motor (repair- why repair it pft)
something to do with a balancing arm
total £650
total to victoria £0
total to evans helshaw batley £650

but although they wont replace the starter motor
and the computer thing, ive got to try find out what it is 1st
and then i can just go to trading standards
advised them i know the sales of goods act 1974
and they kinda give in
about 5 hours on the phone
but yeah
finally- sorted :-)
now to search along all of the internet to find out whats up with the computer

least half of it sorted but that should have been done 10 days ago when u got it, thats a hefty bill for them to pick up but sod them.

basically you know the lcd screen,
it only has the pixels lit up of the mpg reading and what not
well its all lit up
so i cant read it

i cant think without seeing a pic of it, think your best bet is to upgrade them now with the bora/anni clocks with the computer and more function
