Title: Mudflaps? To be or not to be?
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 20 May 2008, 18:22
I'm undecided on wether to have the mudflaps on or off...? I'm not sure. I have them on at the moment:

What do you guys think?

Id say leave them, i didnt even notice you had them on the other pics you have posted recently.

If they were those long floppy ones that flap around in the wind when your driving then id have said yes.

I will admit, they do save crap from spraying onto the rear bodywork.

My dads got some on his motor and it doesnt stop the back from getting dirty like my golf which doesnt have flaps.

Infact my last two cars havent had flaps and its not bad at all.

It does stop crap from spraying up the sides of the car behind the front wheels though.

Nah, they look fine.

Only time you may be forced to remove them is if you lower it, i mean i couldnt have flaps even if i wanted to because they would just scrape along the road all the time

Post by: Shady Pioneer on 21 May 2008, 00:20
Well jv lol! I'm putting GTI suspension on the car as I can't afford to buy and insure myself with it lowered properly. So I'm cheating for 20mm lol!

Keep 'em if you like stone chip free paint!

I've kept mine purely for the practical reasons although they do make the car look even lower!

As for removing them - you don't need to take the wheels off at all! :afro:
Title: Re: Mudflaps? To be or not to be?
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 21 May 2008, 09:41
How do you get them off without taking the wheels off then?
Title: Re: Mudflaps? To be or not to be?
Post by: eightyeightmph on 21 May 2008, 09:51
The rears should just be screwed on the bumper with self tappers so you can get in there with a phillips head screw driver either at an angle or just get a short one.

The front are just allen key tightened clamps, you'll probably be able to just pull them off but if you can't spray them with WD40 the night before then grab some grips (to stop the clamps turning) and an allen key to slacken them off, at worst you'll just have to turn the wheel to give you more access!

Easy peasy!!

have you rang them to see what they say in terms of cost etc? it might not be too much more.

You could make it sound like you need to replace the shocks and springs anyway, but have come across some GTI suspension for cheap instead of it being a 'modification'. Just a thought.

i like the low look with the rally mud flaps, looks cool, not sure about those ones, also get the wheels on spacers, so its low, wide, with chunky flaps. looks cool.
