The end of all the hard work and waiting is close, i would say im about 95% done with the restoration of my mk2 golf gti 16v project,
just a few odd bits to do like cam belt and other belts, a tune up, a few odd bits of trip to replace, then its time to tax it and insure it as a weekend car for me to enjoy,
heres a mix of pics before and after,

Looks great mate, good stance. Only thing sorry but i've got to say it, it's a small bumper model with big bumpers attached. That's okay but i would personally have kept it origonal or gone back to it if i was doing a project.
How is she running?
Baz

yer shes running fine, a tune up is on the cards, i was and am at some point going to fit g60 arches, the car came with the big bumpers on as you can see in the 1st pics, so i worked with what i had,
-
Looks good - have to 2nd the comment on the big bumpers, also, does it now have a silver vw badge on the grill? pretty sure that early mk2's had black ones?
Either way its a stunning piece of work and ensures that another mk2 is good for another 20 or so years :)

My mk2 is a J and has a black grill badge
Looks really good, I bet you're very proud

Looks good mate, good too see it will be well looked after

What's wrong with a black grille badge? I bought 1 off flee-bay to replace my silver 1
I still have the silver badge so that I can restore it's 'original' look.

Car looks great!
I too got a black grill badge from ebay as my silver one was shagged to say the least!
-
Ah badge talk. Had this discussion with a mate on the weekend and i've just put a shiny silver one in, think it makes the front look more modern and stylish. Adds a bit of definiton to the grill imo.
Otherwise nice job on the dub, the red has become red again, not a skany pinky colour lol.

Nowt wrong with a black badge! What I meant was, is it actually true that late mk2s came with silver badges and early ones with black?
-
I know, never said there was, i had one for a year. I'm not sure about which cars had what except im sure 16v definately had them as standard, post 90 spec.
-
GTIs should have a black badge .... tbh .....
-
dude seriously you must be on your 100th sig by now?
-
 does it really bother you that much?
-
Well its just i dont remember people by their user names, mainly by their sig. Is it some type of addiction you must forfil?
-
haha, no i have a really short attention span and get bored easily
-
nice one matey good to see anougher clean tidy mk2 put back to its former glory, like it very much

thanks for all the reply's, yes the badge was black when i 1st got the car as you can see in the 1st pics of it, the silver badge was on the grill that i got to replace the old grill, the old grill did not have the red pipe line running around it, i seem to like the silver badge at this point, i may change it back to black at a later date, i still have the old gill and spots,
today i fitted the armard door handle lock things to stop the thieves wishing to have a pop at it, change the locks so 1 key fits all, i just seem to be having an issue getting the old steering lock off, iv un-bolted the steering wheel and stuff, got it all back to the barrel part, undid the alan key bolt, but it wont budge,
i did manage to have a look at the MSA stalk thats playing up, the internal parts of the wiper are are all busted and missing parts, so i need to get another one, which leads me to find a few on ebay, my question is are all mk2 wiper stalks with the MFA option the same or was there a change at the year 1990 ?

to get ignition lock housing off there could be a spline adaptor (mine has one and is a 89 and a g reg) unless this is removed it will not come off
or is all the wiring disconnected as when i removed mine i think there was a plug that i didnt notice at first that stopped mine from coming off
