Post by: gtiscott on 19 May 2008, 18:46
i know how to change it but my prob is i can't get an allen key(5mm?) in to undo the bolt as there is a bracket that holds the brake pipe in the way.....what do you guys use?

You need a 5mm hex socket.

I changed one yesterday - taking the bolt out was the easy bit, getting the sensor out in one piece was impossible! They are quite firmly wedged in, I broke it in the end taking it out.

Taking the sensor out is pretty simple too...

Make sure the handbrake is off and the car is in 4th gear when you jack it up roll it until the gear engages to stop it moving when jacked up. A lot of people will tell you to break the sensor out, far too much effort... If you get a square headed socket screwdriver or something similar.. poke it through the wheel bolt hole in the hub... spin the hub so the screwdriver is at the top, then you can feel using the screwdriver where the sensor pokes through from behind, put the screwdriver on the sensor and hammer it out from the front and it will come out in one piece. Before you put the new sensor in, clean up the hole with a small brush and WD40

The cable you'll notice cunningly clips into a tray that also holds the brake pipes, run it along these then back through the floor under the rear seat and plug back in
