I picked up my VR6 Highline on friday. ;D
So far i really love it. It's much more powerfull and smooth than the MK3 16v it replaced.
I think what people say about poor handling as standard is true but very over exageratted. You have to really push it to get bad understeer, but it is a bit soft and roly. I think when my bank balance has recovered the suspension will get sorted.
I'm quite surprised by economy. On the normal drive to work, some a roads and a fair bit of town traffic i've averaged nearly 29mpg over two days. Although over the weekend with some enthusiastic use i did see 20mpg. :o
Can't wait to finish work and drive home now!

Glad you're enjoying your new car!
I'm not in the slightest bit jealous!!! :P

wot will 7000 get me ? vr6 wise
??? ??? ???

Whatever you dream of.
For ?7,000 you could get a mint low mileage R reg Highline from a VW Main Dealer.

ive been lookin at a clio 172 .,does any one have anything to say to
convert me to vw , some good stuff on 3dr vr6 ect?
ive about ?8,000 ............ including insurance! ( im 29.)

you won't really get an honest opinion here mate will ya ;)
plus we hate french cars.
like jtevr6 said you could get one of the final vr6s made with decent mileage, and probably loaded with some nice extras. its exactly what i did when i went for my valver.
why don't you have decent look around at some, and test drive them.. see how you feel then?

erm, mint would be 50k ish miles, near perfect bodywork and interior, every thing electrical working properly, full dealer service history.
I recently bought mine from a dealer in this condition (72k miles) and got a brand new mot, 6 months tax, full inspection inluding putting right anything wrong, 1 year comprehensive warranty, 1 year vw roadside assistance. It had two bad scratches on the bonnet so they resprayed it, three of the bbs wheel caps were missing, so they replaced them.
I paid much less than ?7k for it. So you could expect similar standards and probably lower mileage.
Clio 172 and VR6 are very different cars.
VR6 is a bit faster (controversial) but 172 handles better (until you upgrade the VR6 suspension)
There's all the usual benefits of vw build quality and reliability. Plus you don't have to live with the astonishing uglyness of a clio (my opinion :o)
Test drive both of them properly and see what you think.
Of course there's also the sound and refinement of the V6. ;D

cheers mate ill let you know how i get on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For ?8000 you can get whatever you want in terms of Mk3's!
Pretty sure you can get a V nice VR6 Highline 1995-1998(5dr), low mileage and with all the trimmings: everything electric, everything heated, leather, sunroof, etc for ?5500-?6500 and you'll still be able to afford to insure it (?400-?1000, depending on history, etc) and upgrade the suspension with some nice Koni shocks and Eiback sports springs and still have change from ?8000.

And I'll second the French car thingy.... Audi and VW fans on here..... BMW's tolerated (well I had one for my last car), but very few fans of French cars or rice rockets here....
