Title: Hi all Mk4 Owners
Post by: Scottish_Gaz on 19 May 2008, 01:40
Hi all, my name is Gaz and im from Derby. Ive just bought a mk4 Golf gti turbo which i upgraded from a Saxo Vts.

Ive had the Golf now about 2 weeks and i know nothing basically about it, but im now on look for idea and advice from this section.

Ive posted pics below of the car and its the exact way i bought it 2 weeks ago so i aint changed nothing on it, i love golfs but before i start buying stuff and changing bits, i want to make sure i buy the right parts which will suit rather than buying something i will soon change so be grateful if i could have your comments on all bad and good bits about this golf

and when i had the saxo, i was on a saxo owners club and like any other club, there was favourites which everyone went for which suited the saxo and gave it best performance

So there are a few things i have in mind so far that im definetely going to have done to it such as

Remapped
Sort the suspension out as they on coilovers but seem to be rather bouncey
Not sure on the grill so im looking at some others before i choose
and possibly the wheels as not too sure
and lastly the a bonnet bra which im not sure will suit it

please all give me comments on whats popular for golfs and what i should concentrate on for bit more power and looks please

Gaz

gaz . i noticed you are looking at dump valves too . as rich said forge are a good valve and comes with life time guarantee. the split R or the 007p are both not loud. But if combined with a cold air induction kit then apparently it makes them sound louder.

 Hope you have a big wallet for this hobby

lol well my wallet big enough for stuff its its worth it, but she doesnt need much done to her tbh, few things need changed and added.

yes guys, i knew the grill would be mentioned like i already mentioned in my first post.

ive seen one that has eyebrows added on to it like a sort of badboyish (sounds chavy but its not) look on it, which i like.

and its a 1999 but have my plate on it so hides the year

Alright mate welcome to the forum!

I would suggest a FK Badgless grill firstly, I dont know where the previous owner got that one but jesus they need to stop making them! You can get the bonnet extensions you are on about from demon tweaks too. Definatly get a remap but before you do that make sure you have a uprated induction kit (panel, cone or cold air), an uprated dv (not atmospheric, it will reek havoc with your ecu and put you in limp mode, 007p is the best as already mentioned) and an exhaust system, if your car is a '99 its more then likely to be an ARZ or AGU with a KO3 turbo, a remap will generally see you around 200bhp.

Once again welcome to the forum ;)

really finding everyone friendly so thanks again.

yes the bonnett extention is what i meant, do you think they are nice?

has a baileys dv on it atm and a k&n open filter which i want to replace for something different.

doesnt have a aftermarket exhaust as im not to keen on having a loud car unless there is a good example for the golf which isnt too loud but nice sound?

Quiet until you get to about 3000 rpm then you get a nice deep rasp AND NOT OTT

Looks alright mate, loose that front grill tho, no offence but I think its look rank !  Way to "boooied up" for my liking (which isnt to everyones taste btw).

no offense taking, not liek i put it on myself or anything, ive bought a bonnet extention which im waiting on being delivered.

and i loved my saxo i had, but this is a hell of a lot classier and a beautie to drive, especially for my age

looks like miltek is a favourite. Anyone got any link to were they are the cheapest? maybe discount for member or such?

Nice motor mate.  If you got the bonnet extension (where from, got a link?), the a badgeless grill would be the way to go (maybe modded to 1 bar).

As for the engine, depends on how far you want to take it, lol.  There are many many options with varying degrees of expense.  As said before, a simple remap will get you about 200 BHP with your standard turbo, the K03.  You could upgrade to the k03s turbo from the AUM and AUQ engines (same as on 180 BHP models).  This, a silicon TIP, and possibly slightly bigger injectors will see about 230 BHP.

Andd a FMIC, and a sports cat (mine is miltek) and you could be looking upwards of 250 BHP.  None of the parts (except exhaust and FMIC) should be too hugely expensive, so part list can be built up over time.  A custom remap on this and your looking at pretty much a stage 2 conversion.  I have just done all of the above and am very happy with the results.

Obviously, suspension and brakes would need upgrading aswell.  R32 brakes maybe???  ARB's etc are possible.  Wow.  LOADS of money, lol.  Oh yeah, I needed a new clutch aswell.

If 200 BHP is fine, then go for it, get a remap.  But maybe look at getting it from a reputable dealer who would be willing to discount should you decide to take the car further.
