hi guys, new to here and new to vw never mind a golf. Just bought a mk4 golf gti turbo and im wanting some advice on few stuff. Basically i went and bought it and i was expecting more from it being a turbo but it won't go past 120mph.
I dont rag my car, far from it but like any new car, you want to find out what it can do, and i wasnt very impressed.
Im organising it to be remapped as ive heard alot about bigger gains being a turbo. its 150bhp if im correct? so what you reckon it will go to with a remap?
after i have it remapped, what should the next step be? booster controller to up the bosste slitely?
im asking on here as most of you know what best suits these cars and what they advantage and disadvantage from
-
when will you need to go past 120  but im sure some of the others will be able to give you advise etc on how to get more power prob cai bigger turbo, etc
-
like i said, i dont rag my car, but mod it same reason as everyone does, so the power is there. Just saying i was expecting more
-
well i think from what i have read in various threads that getting it remapped can get you up to about 200bhp poss more? i think to go further thats when they advise upgrading the turbo and then another remapp poss changing the exhaust system as well lots of fun stuff  just have a look through and im sure you will find some info that will grab your attention

ok cool, i think 200bhp would suit me!
one more thing, does anyone know much about blow off valves? dump, wastegate, flytail etc etc etc
as there are all these names but knowing whats what is the harder part.
does anyone know the difference between them all?
whats loud and not?
whats best suits golfs etc etc?

First off have a look here:

As for the DV dont get an atomospheric one as the 1.8T engine dont like it and wont run right.
Get a forge 007p:

Or if you like the noise  go for this one:

what kind of noise does the bottom one give? a dump noise or like a fluttering sound?
and is it loud?

lol some people have had probs with the spliter tho
TBH mate your best bet is the forge 007p This will give you no running probs etc - ive had mine for 2 years its spot on.

Hi!
Hello M8 welcome to the forum.
The first question from new 1.8T Gti owners is mainly "I want more power" lol. IMO Standard perfomance from the 150bhp GTI 1.8t is pants.
But once remapped the car should feel how you would expect a Gti to feel, loads of power and wheel spin .
Looking at your user name It take it you could be from Scotland??? if so there is a good company up there called Star perfomance who can remap and transform it into a propper Gti.
The Forge 007p and an induction kit with the alloy relocation pipe will work wel together, plus it will make a nice blow off sound which is amplified by the induction pipe. The Blow off type valves dont work well with the 1.8T engines.
Steer clear of boost controllers, once remapped the ECU will take care of the extra boost and Fuel to air ratios, A good remap should see you boost around 1bar. Too much pressure when running a Boost controller can lean the engine and cause det and cause the limp mode kicking in.
A remap should take the engine upto around 195bhp to 210bhp depening on your engine spec. A good exhaust and de-cat will also free up the mid range power band and give you a few more BHP.
A standard 150bhp Golf 1.8T should easy do 135mph, if your flat out at 120mph you may have engine issuse which need sorting out before you start to remap and tune the car. your first port of call it to get the ECU read using Vagcom.
Regards
Nick

hi mate, lovely piece of information. i am from scotland but i actually live in derby mate.
yes the car will only do between 120-130 flat out which was last week on way home from buying it.
You say i could have engine troubles, well there seems to be no sign of anything that could need attention.
i am a little mechanical minded and i know when something seems not too good and it seems to drive ok and smooth so not sure if there is a prob or not.
not really wanting to de cat it as im after a bit of reality of running it than just purely after performance, so i will be doing a remap as seems to be a big difference.
at the min, the car has a baileys blow off valve but all noise comes out of the induction kit for some reason (sounds like it anyways)

Hello.
A good remap alone should put smile on your face.
Is your bailey DV a re-circ type or atmos Blow off?

hi mate, i dont know the difference to be honest.
how much do you charge for remap for members on here?
