Title: TDI 130, 2003/03, 52k miles 3 services - £6600 - Good Value?
Post by: TonyC on 18 May 2008, 15:03

A guy is selling a 2003/03 GT TDI 130 5 door. It's done 52k, had 3 services, last one was a specialist 10k ago. Very clean condition. He will let it go for £6600. Only bad points were that the cambelt has not been changed and searching thru the archives there's suggestions taht it should have been done at 4 years old due to VW changing the 'time' interval and the oil seemed quite 'used' (as it was quite black) -so probably could do with a change.

Just wounder what people's thoughts are on the cambelt situation and the general pricing - I've looked at parkers and have a glasses link which show it to be good value but it's what people are prepared to pay really.
Thanks,
TC

sounds ok - what sort of options has it got? leather, xenons? etc

definetly knock him down a couple of quid for the cambelt and oil change - try £6200 and go from there or has he stated £6600 is the lowest?

6600 is what I'd offered when he wanted 7200 but he didn't sell but since I've been since reading about cambelt intervals etc so I think it need to be taken into consideration. There are no options - it's pretty standard but it's got climate so that's fine. TC

Cambelt is recommended to be changed at 4 years or 60k miles.

Cant help with garage tho. Just make sure you use genuine parts!!!

if its only had 3 services it implies its on variable service interval, fixed it should have had 5 every 10k, my understanding was all of the PD engines were meant to have been switched back to fixed service interval becuase of the cam wear problems linked to the wrong oil being used (fix and variable use different oils) on a 130 with 52k it shouldn't be a problem but something to keep in mind if you plan to do 50k whilst you own the car.

as rhyso has already said the cam belt should have been done (4 years or 60K)  the absolute latest being the end of the month as its an 03, normally a couple of months or few thousand aren't going to make much odds but it needs to be none.

My car is a 53 plate and I don't think the cam belt has been done (39k miles). I take it from what has been said, I should get it done...?

Thanks for the info guys but the original post was from a while back and I didn't go for it as I wasn't in a hurry to buy. Now looking at a mk 5 140 for only a little more.
