Title: 4motion running gear
Post by: GTi-Matt on 18 May 2008, 08:56
has anyone ever used 4 motion running gear on a 1.8t engines?

just been thinking that the mk4 isnt the best for handling but putting serious amount of bhp through the 1.8t engine with the 4 wheel drive will also help get the power down?

would this work?

was thinkin might be cheaper to just get 4motion than do that sort of mod . Have you upgraded front and rear anti roll bar ? Alot of guys have mentioned this eliminates all body role and significantly increase handling

spot on - to make the 4mo running gear 'fit' would be a complete mare

get a 4mo and supercharge it or alternatively get an R32 and turbo that

cheapest alternative as mk4martin has said is to fit new anti-roll bars and also sort out your suspension (next on my list)

If i could do it again, I'd get a V6 4M with a blown lump & put an S3 (BAM) lump in there for a 'Golf S3'.

But then again, early S3's are pretty cheap these days!!

The 4motion running gear doesnt fit, firstly its awd and the 1.8t isnt, the holes dont join up on the gearboxes either. front brakes are 312's though which can be used on the 1.8t. Most things are surprsingly different!

There was a company that did the 4mo conversion a few years back, cost was around 12 grand iirc. There's a lot more to it than just having the gear, the whole shell has to be adapted.

indeed, which is why noone bothered

Hard to say with that ebay ad, could be anything wrong with it. Off the shelf charger kits are around 6 grand, add 1500 for brakes and suspension.
