Title: car was fine-then it brokedown-had new ignition coil fitted- car started but...
Post by: Dave_GTI16v on 17 May 2008, 13:58
its not the same, when im not moving it seems to idle fine but if i just rest my foot on the gas slightly the revs go up and down up to 2 rpm to below 1 rpm, also it misfires and it kind of hesitates initially after each gear also feels as if its going to cut out when im setting off so i have to give it a more revs, mechanic checked dizzy, spark plugs and leads etc said they were fine although this was before i knew i had the new problem, he charged me £80 for getting the ignition coil and fitting it, i feel ripped off and dont have much money, so im asking you guys to see if you have any ideas before i take it back to the garage, had a mate look at it who said seems like it could be a breather pipe, but he did a check and couldnt find anything. cheers for any help!

its obviously electrical, connected to the first issue. take it back to the guy that 'fixed' it and get him to put right what he has done.

Have you had the relays changed..number 30 and number 167, if not get some from the stealer. Should cost £25 for both and i bet this will help if not sort the problem.

i wouldn't feel ripped off if i were you - if it got it running again then a new ignition coil for £80 is just about the going rate through a mechanic

aside from that mentioned i would check the following

all HT leads are seated correctly on spark plugs and in the correct order from the dizzy

if this issue was on it's own I would also check the throttle body
