Title: Just bought a Dbilas Intake
Post by: K1 on 17 May 2008, 01:29
Not to be out done by Hurdy's latest spending spree... i thought i'd change my Carbonio to a Dbilas intake from Revo. Heard great reviews from S3 and Cupra guys. Apparently one guy at Cupra.net made 310bhp/394lbft with DV, Dbilas Intake, Supersprint exhaust and Revo!
Anyway will let you guys know what i think of it... Carbonio will be up for sale... anyone want?

Kev

Yeah thats the one... haven't received it yet. Should get it by Monday/Tuesday. Got it from Regal... quite expensive for an intake lol.
I'm looking for £100 for the Carbonio (£95) less than awesome-gti.

Is it not possible to modify the existing cover? but then you would have probs come resale time.

....There are a few aftermarket engine covers available. EVOMS offer a nice aluminium one and Neuspeed and others do carbonfibre ones.

Just fitted my new intake:

Car has a slightly louder induction noise. Sounds 'gruffer' abit less civilised, but perfectly acceptable. Can feel increased throttle response, mid range to high range pull is definitely stronger. Downsides is i can feel more pedal vibration from 3,000rpm onwards from the brake pedal. Don't know if this is because of the removal of the factory airbox which may provide some vibration damping.
Have yet to receive my heat shield for the rear of the engine compartment to revent excessive heat from the manifold. At the moment, the MAF pipe can get quite hot.

Who is supplying the heatshield, if you don't mind me asking?

Engine cover is £79... i'll most likely buy one later. Both engine cover and heat shield is supplied by EVOMS from Regal.

K1 check to make sure the intake isn't touching the brake fluid resevoir as that may cause the pedal vibration you are experiencing.

Thanks for the tip Bacillus... i think the pipe from the intake to the DV is touching the brake fluid resevoir. Will see if i can come up with a fix.

sorry but what benefits would this have over your carbonio? as i cant see it being very much? inductions really dont do much in bhp and speed difference except slightly better throttle. i prefere the look of the carbonio and wouldnt loose the engine cover to acomidate an induction kit. also why dont you come to the RR day, im sure awesome wont mind one or 2 more, it would be good to see more variations of mods to see which get better gains. what other mods have you done now K1

After much reading about intakes for my MKV i've decided I'd like to try the EVOMS kit, but can we get them in the UK?

I can find a supplier so if anybody can point me in the right direction i'd be much appreciated

Thanks

wont that just suck up hot air from the engine ?

yes it will but the air will soon get much hotter once it reaches the turbo...

the original ram vw design is actually very good but let down by the air turbulence induced by the air box/filter.

There is a definite improvement in power/torque over the carbonio. My car is remapped tho, so the difference may be more noticeable than just intake alone. The turbo spools up quicker, before when on a charge thru the gears with the Carbo, there would be a small moment of lag when selecting the next gear before the turbo gives its max before slamming you into the seat. So u always feel the swelling of the torque moment. With the new intake, its feels more like a NA car, i don't have to wait for the torque to swell up as it is there already if you know what i mean? I didn't notice that feeling before until i drove an S3. Each upshift feels great, whereas mine i had that laggy feeling before the torque catches up after the gear change.
The intake is definitely less refined tho, still more civilised that an open cone filter like the EVOMS i would assume. Open window and u can hear a whistling noise at certain rpm's, hit high rpms, back off the throttle and u can hear a 'psst' noise from the turbo/intake.
I wish i could keep the engine cover, but then again. I don't often hit shows etc.. so how pretty my engine bay is, is offset by the stronger performance
Can't make it to the RR day, have to bloody work. Will try to get my car on the rollers when i go down to manc on the 15th of July.

....Reluctantly I'll have to point you in the direction of Regal in Southampton as they are unfortunately sole UK distributors. EVOMS in America are themselves very helpful but I don't like the Regal people much. There might be another EVOMS supplier in Scotland (use them!!!!).

I just bought the HPS intake off ebay, It looks nice and was pretty cheap compared to some at £125

I'll take some pics and write a report once fitted
