Title: overheating, erratic idle.
Post by: antogoof on 17 May 2008, 00:39
just bought an 87 mk2 3 door 8v gti. had to drive it from warrington to oldham tonight and i have a problem, i drove about a mile from where it was and the temp gauge went up to three quarters and the little red light started flashing so i pulled over. topped the water system up as it was a bit low and got on our way again. drove about 40 miles at about 60 in fifth and i thought the problem had gone but as soon as i got off the motorway the problem came back (sky high temp gauge/warning light) so i am a bit confused as to what it might be! help!

took it out this morning, i think that the power loss is just the fact that it needs plugs and leads but the overheating problem has changed. the temp light is still flashing away as soon as you start the car even when its cold and the gauge is staying just over half all the time but as i was driving i heard a hissing from under the dash like where the ashtray is. could it be the heater matrix? help me please!!!

that light is a low coolant warning light! sounds like its leaking from somewhere though
