Title: A small problem with my GTI
Post by: wanderer on 16 May 2008, 21:56
The offside rear door wont open on my 55 plate GTI, so i have taken the door card off, but it doesnt allow much, if any access.

I have found that if i pull on the cable for the interior handle, with a pair of pliers and pull the exterior handle at the same time, i can get the door to open, so everything must be attached. On further investigation, i have seen that if you pull the exterior handle, a threaded section is visible, which is usually hidden by the plastic colour coded cover (the bit that has the key hole in, on the drivers door). At the botton of this thread section, there is a plastic bolt, which looks like it could be the adjuster to correct the problem i am having. On the other 3 doors, the bolt sits no more than 3 or 4 threads from the outer edge, where as, on the door i am having problems with, there must be atlest 10 to 12 threads showing.

Does anyone know if and  how i can adjust/move this bolt to allow the door to open?

It looks like the plastic colour coded cover imediately to the rear of the door handle will have to come off, but i cant get it to budge, is there screw holding it on, or is it just a matter of brute force to remove it??

Not much help I'm afraid, but surely your car is still covered under warranty, and is a job for the dealer to fix?

it doesnt matter how many owners the car has had, as long as its still in warranty it should be ok
