Title: Flames!
Post by: GTI-BOY on 26 April 2004, 10:41

Ever since my twin dtm backbox was fitted I experience flames popping out when blipping the throttle :D
Some (from key eye witness accounts!) have been about a foot long ;D My mates GTI ,also an 8v digi does the exact same! Is this a common thing for GTI's and will it cause any problems if I keep doing it.. looks cool when we both pull up beside each other at night at the lights ;D

mine does it some of mine have been 4 footers! and i have no kit!

once i drove in first and kept the revs high for a few streets i came to a few junctions i slowed down and then accelerated from the not taking it out of first.........
the engine was very hot as i'd been giving it some all night and i went along this stretch of road and my mates was behined me and i floored it , it hit the limiter so i backed off and floored it again and a massively big flame came out and a massive bang ;D
mate said it was as high and as wide as the car!!!!!! ;D

he wasnt looking directly at the back of my car at the time and thought my car was exploding ;D
the things we get up to eh?! ;D

the actual word for flames are called afterburner!
formula 1 engines do this very well!

i cant see it damaging anything (other than the baffels in the exhaust) as long as the engines hot before you start to thrash it! it all depends how big they are and also if there is any bangs with them......
