Title: Arches, Widestuff, Etc
Post by: Fielder5757 on 25 April 2004, 12:13
I plan to put G60 Arches on my golf, So i figured i get the original metal arches entirely flattened out and then fix the wide arches over the top, That way making the arch space wider, Then extending my grip by moving the wheels wider, Two problems tho,

1) how do i fix the G60s to the arches if there flat and i cant pop rivit them into place

2) how can i make the cars stance wider without extending the axls? Could i just put some spacers inbetween and then use longer bolts? Im not too sure on this one.

Thanks for the help :)

No, i want to add Mk2 G60 plastic arches to my Mk2, Then extend the width of my cars stance by widing the axls or somthing, Just asking if i can use spacers etc or will i need new axls???  ???

Not sure about fixing the arches on ya MK2. On my first first MK1 I ended up choosing the width I required then fiber glassing them from ubder neath, then smothing with filler.  Not the best way but only one i can think off.  As far as stance goes, depending on the amount of space you give yourself, choose a wheel a wider offset with longer bolts.  Dont reccomend spacers.  bit scary.  :o

Apparently you rivet the bottoms where it isnt rolled and then stick the top on with glue  ???

rivet the g60 arches at the bottoms and then flatten out the metal up into the plastic of the arch. that way it'll be completely out of the way, yet provide a surface to atatch the plastic to. just bond that on with silaflex.

to widen your wheels you'll need spacers, but like someone said previous I myself are a little weary of doing that.

Or just buy genuine G60 wings, which are still available from VAG, and will allow your arches to fix to them exactly like they should ?????

Hi

I have a MKII 8V which is on 9X16 on each corner!

I get a fair bit of scrubbing on the rear, fronts aren't too bad.

The cars booked into a body shop to get the arches sorted out on the 21st.  I'm getting the arches from VW direct (does anyone know somewhere cheaper?).  They say they'll cut away or flatten anything that needs to be sorted then bond the arches onto the body.  Then i can go lower again.

Hope that helps!  I'll let you know what happens when i get it back!

siliconed my mates g60 arches on with large rivets on the bottom. used an angle grinder to get rid of any fouling on the arch + on the arches themselves. I'd be wary about using spacers unless you get proper ones likethe eibach ones with the corect bolts, otherwise can be very dangerous, i know, my wheel came off on a b road, bloody nightmare it turned out to be.
mates car has been dropped 60mm on koni coilovers.

After much consideration about which set of wheels to leave on the car i've decided to go for the Brocks in 9 X 16 so the car will be in to the body shop next week to have G60's put on and most of the metal taken away!  I'll let you know how i get on!

Cheers
