Title: 2l bottom end conversion Help/Advice ?
Post by: sdall30 on 14 May 2008, 13:01
I have a mk2 8v gti and want to get the 2L bottom end conversion done .
I'd love to give it a try myself but I don't have the facilities or the technical ability so what I'm after is a good VW garage not over 50 miles from worcester that could do the job for me ?
if anybody has the contact details of such a place could they please let me know, also any info on rough price guides for such a job would be appreciated also.

Many Thanks
Stuart

I've got a sound 2E bottom end here in Bristol.

There is also space on the concrete drive for you to work and access to most any tools you'll need to do the job, plus a mate and I are working on some stuff over the next few weeks, so will be on hand to help, if needed.

Pick your day, speak to Matt Neck to organise a new set of bolts and a head gasket from Vee W Services in Bristol and come and do the job in a day here.

Facilities ain't plush, but you'd have the satisfaction of doing it yourself (plus the extra knowledge about it, which is always useful).

PM me if you're interested.

Thank you , that's a very generous offer , I've just had a quote from a place in the west midlands and they wan't somewhere in the region of £1400 inc vat for the job.

I'll ask a friend who is nifty with a spanner what day's he's got avaiable over the next couple of weks and let you know.

Many Thanks
Stuart

Agreed!

That is a stupid price. You can get a 2E bottom end for around £100. Then you gotta get the dizzy and HG set. I would have said £220-270 all in. For £1,400 you could go for a VR6 lump fitted. There is a place near me that charged a bloke I know £1550 to supply and fit a Corrado VR6 lump and they are 190bhp standard.

That's a good offer Diamond Hell :) Plus doing it yourself you'll learn something at the same time :)
