Hi, Just wondered what any of you had done to keep GTI safe and tucked up and away from being pinched. I was considering having telescopic bollards put on the driveway to prevent it being driven away.
Any more ideas! Has anyone gone for asset protection insurance? Is stealing a real problem for GTIs?
Thanks,
Mart

what is asset protection insurance?
if you mean GAP insurance then IMO it's worthwhile having.

If you go OTT with security then it will just attract even more attention.
At the end of the day, if my car gets stolen, it gets stolen. I'd be annoyed but I have GAP & I'm fully insured so if I lost my car I'd just get another GTI. It wouldn't put me off from owning a nice car if it happened.

Thats why I thought untill scumbags they tried to steal mine. Its not the fact that they have got your car its the fact that they have been in your house, it just makes your worry about the safety of your family in your own home. You might not want to give them another excuse to break in by getting another one. Thats what I found anyway.

After my mate had his stolen last weekend (after 10 days of ownership) I will be installing a bollard ready for mine when it arrives.

Is there a spate of GTI's getting stolen all of a sudden in the UK then? What are they doing with them, and where are the Police, this is disgusting.
Its about time they put a stop to this, if you can't even leave a car parked on your own drive in safety in the year 2008 somethings wrong.
One more reason for people to be able to arm themselves if the Police aren't doing their jobs.

Don't think cars being stolen in the UK is a new thing. Just have to be careful when you have a nice motor.
Only car I ever had nicked was a 1.3 1988 Ford Escort :embarassed: Got it back and the garage made it better than new
