Hi guys,
After months of badgering VWUK, we now have a result.
Received a letter this morning... the missus phoned me through the content at work.
It appears that ALL Edition 30 owners will now be issued with numbered plaques (based on build date/VIN numbers).
VW are sourcing a manufacturer and they estimate a couple of months before despatch.
They apologised again for the overun.
Seems that sometimes making yourself a pain in the ar$e pays dividends.
Enjoy...Hotrod
-
Thats a great result for Mr Public, well done Hotrod for your persistence. Im sure all of the Ed30 owners will be very pleased!
-
dam yeah. hope i have a good one :D not like 13!! LMAO
-
sweet! thats good news, wonder were it will be fixed!? (I assume its a DIY job!?)
-
Good news , how do people who bought second hand get them though, should imagine a few ED30's have been sold on now
-
DVLA, they give peoples info away to anyone these days.
-
its going to be interesting to see what number people get  , anyone else get any info on this ?
-
Great result - hope I don't get 666
-
i should get a low number as mine was regestured in feb 07. so maybe a sub 100 number!!!
i will piss my pants if it comes in the post with instructions to fit in drivers seat handle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. ,
i wonder where will be best place to stick the plaque?
-
Well done for all the pestering Hotrod.
A replacement brushed strip above the glovebox would be nice, still keeping the edition 30 logo
-
Thats a result, great news Hotrod! :afro:
-
Well done! :)
-
Thanks hotrod - great news. Puts the finishing touch on the car. So how long (approx.) until we have these badges in our hands? And will we be getting them direct, or through our stealerships? Will be interesting to see what they have done - a replacement inlay where the edition 30 logo is would be cool.
-
....Hats off to you, Hotrod!!     - Five Stars!!
-
....Methinks you Ed30 guys 'n gals will be better off with the numbered badged fitted inside the car - Less chance of thieving scumbags!
-
wheres Hotrod with the scan of the letter
-
someone said it may take 3-4 months b4 we would recieve these plaques, agreed on its not going to be an overnight resolution as something like this will take a while. Great news though, and something thats been campained for. That will help in residuals no question.
-
sooooo how many edition 30s have been made??
ive noticed they keep there value well some are still similar prices to when i was looking for my GTI last year!!
-
lets just hope it happens
-
if its an official letter from VW then they will have to act on it, or they will land themselves in big trouble.

like " we will only make 1500 "
-
yes and looked from whats come of that, limited plaques!
-
Hi gang,
It is indeed great news.
The letter from Carron Cusworth at VWUK states the following and I quote:
â€ÂI am now in a position to communicate Volkwagen UK’s final decision on customers affected by the Golf GTI Edition 30 over production.
I can confirm that VWUK will be providing owners of the Golf Edition 30 with a plaque as an acknowledgment that the vehicle is a limited edition. Volkswagen is currently sourcing a manufacturer for the plaques and we will again be in touch once they have been produced. However, this could be in up to three or four months’ time. The plaques will be individually numbered to denote your Golf’s number within the limited edition run.
I appreciate this resolution has taken some time to be agreed and apologise for any inconenience caused to you. I would also like to personally apologise again for the Edition 30 overbuild.
I hope this goodwill gesture will go some way to rebuilding the bridge between you and the Brand.â€Â
Yours...... etc
I think you’ll agree that an offical VW apology goes a fair way and the plaques are the icing on the cake.
I’m going to crack open the beers.
Have fun... Hotrod

That's great news! Well done to everyone that wrote in to fight our case
(p.s. Number 30 would be a good one to have!)

....I think that hotrod deserves that one!!

So, who's opening a book to see who gets the lowest number
Seroiusly though, Good work Hotrod! Although i dont have an ED30, i would definatly have wanted a plaque.
-
Well done, Steve!

-
Well done Hotrod, does anyone know by how much the overrun actually overran ?
-
Please for you guys.
We didnt have a plaque on our 25th when we got it - wasnt bothered too much, asked the dealer and they didnt seem to bothered either. I then came across a thread on ukmkivs which gave a contact of a dealer down Cornwall who knew about this and more importantly knew what to do - he checked with VW, agreed one never was issues with the car, a few weeks later a genuine plaque arrived. It didnt bother me too much as I knew it was a 25th Anni but its nice to have.

They made 2,300 official UK Edition 30's.
I wonder what will happen to imported ones?
-
2300!! the bastards!!!
i saw two round my area today! one the exact same as mine but tints! gutted!
-
2300!! the fatherless sons!!!

i have seen two red ones, but nothing else
-
Good news for you then I guess..
Maybe the yanks are having the same issues..I guy asked me to make his inserts with the number #1113 on them..Maybe he decided to have his own plate in his seats...
-
Cant you ED30 guys check your number from your cars VIN on the windscreen?
-
Been giving this some thought. Not sure how VW are going to play this as surley sending them out to owners doesn't guarantee that they will either get fitted at all, or in the correct position. To make this work they are going to have to be fitted in a specific place or it will just make a mockery of the whole gesture??
Im thinking the only way for VW to do this the 'right' way would be to send them to supplying dealers and for the current owners to take the car in for the plaque to be fitted in a specific location??
Thoughts????
-
Going back to the Mk4 plaque I got recently, VW supplied the plaque and a template so it goes in the correct place on the fuse box - I would think they would do something similar.
Gulf - you might have a good idea there for the Ed30 owners, seat plaques! I bet you end up doing a few.
-
Are the plaques defo going to be numbered?? i would have thought this adds to the value of all the official uk ones! Well done hotrod!!

Is it definitely a plaque to go in the car or something to hang on your wall at home ?

Numbered... Yes, so it says in the letter.
-
I bet some will end up on fleabay
-
quite why it will take 3-4months when they are putting plaques in the Pirelli.. so why not use the same supplier?

Your right blue, to good to be true!
Oh yes, I wasnt referring to the orange which is horrid - more of where to put a plaque
-
Apols for dumb question - but is the Fahrenheit the ED30 equivalent or Pirelli?
Whilst on the Pirelli - wonder if VW will also ship it with the famous Pirelli calendar - or even better one of the birds from it, it should be an optional extra on the configurator

Ok thanks (I could have googled but being lazy today) - so they had a limited run of 1200 on GTI's (going off the plaque in the picture)and according to that snippet 150 in Canada - thats not a lot. Wonder how many GTI's in the UK - not including the limited number "cough" of ED30

The lenghts Vw will go to in order to shift a few more units, for whats basically a normal GTI with a bit of extra jewellry.
I
-
be nice as standard just with the numbers in small under GTI

I
You mean Bling Bling
-
i think a red plaque for the edition 30 will look cool, will match the stitching and if you own a red edition 30, it would look even better!! ............ i have one of those !!! yepeeee , or they should do a steering wheel plaque to match the colour of the car, but then would look outa place with the red stitching.
-
i have a feeling, in order to keep costs to a minimum, and the fact that it would take too much imagination to do anything else, a 25th anni-esque plaque will be delivered.
-
That USA version is just plain
Bet them yanks but it too! Strange as i was behind what I thought was a silver ED30 the other day.. only when I caught up to him (which you just know I had to do ) I noticed it wasnt an Ed30 badge but a wolfsberg special edition badge?? not seen one of these before.. anyone else on here got one pretending to be an Ed30??
-
yeah ive seen a golf with some sort of badge on it.. think it said individual or something.
had color coded bumpers and some 17s ive never seen before.
-
Anyone heard anything on these?
-
nope, nothing :(
-
Its called the individual package.
Pretty much like the S-line package Audi offers on its A4's etc.
Basically you pay a slight premium, get a special badge and can choose from any equipment.
So you can buy a 1.4 litre individual package golf and get it directly from the factory with Monza rims. GT Sport front grills. And a .:R32 rear bumper.
Kinda sad I think.
