Hi,
Just a quick rant, i love my golf gti mk3 16v ts fastish, reliable etc, etc but the window mechanisms are clearly its downfall!!!!
Mine has gone through 2 NSR mechanisms in three months, its becoming a joke!!!
i know they are made of some really cheap n nasty ford stylee plastic that the nipple in the mechanism just tears through but am i the ony one to suffer from this????
Any one know if this is another common cheaply made not meant to last part from vw????
Sorry rant over any info would be grate!!!!

they are hopeless!!! in fact it is a common fault on all VW's I think...
I have finally got mine both up (3dr) although both are hardly working and temperamental so rather than fix them, I am going to spend £60 getting the air con re-gassed so I don't need the bleeding windows and just leave them well alone!!!!

Both my rears have gone and they slip down when i drive , except ramming carboard in the runners is there a cheap fix. Apart from that its a security thang, good job crime is on its knees over here, all the crims left years ago...
-
cheapest (long term) fix is to convert to manual wind
-
Yeah the mrs has got manual wind windows on her cabriolet.
I took the micky out of her when she got it, but now my leccy ones are on the way out, and the bro in law's have gone aswell, she is the smug one now

Go to halfords and buy the regass/oil/leak stop can and do it yourself for £20 in about 3 minutes. Have the car running with air con on full, take the black cap off the air con pipe, pop on the thing off the can over the schraeder valve, press can until the guage shows as filled. easy. Did mine on my vectra the other day. Wear gloves though otherwise your fingers will turbn to lollypops and fall off :)

I am having these problems, drivers side mechanism is gone. Heard a lot of people with the same problem. I have managed to source a new motor and mechanism from a scrappy that works, just wondering as you have experience in changing is it very difficult? Should it take me long to swap out?
Cheers

Its realy easy to change! just a few bolts and a multi conector basicly.
-
my rear passenger one has gone... but I can't be bothered to fix it!
one of many little faults the mk3 has... adds character!
-
Both my rear windows dont work ...then again...when will i ever be sitting in the back

Air con system partly works by compressing gas (like freon) to a liquid like a freezer. When they stop working it's normally because it needs new gas putting in
