Hi guys ive had my GTI for just over 2 weeks now and done 300 miles in it however yesterday when started her the Service Now! message was displayed, i purchased the car from parkway vw in derby now the previous owner had it set to longlife and it was only serviced 3 thousand miles ago. I can understand that maybe the dealer did'nt reset the computer but what i cant understand is why it did'nt tell me sooner ie from 2000 miles and down in then count down like my mk4 did. Any replies much appreciated as ever.

I'd just take it back to the dealers and have it reset and checked out. There is no way a car on longlife service should come up for another service after 3000 miles.

it sounds like your car is set to 'time and distance' rather than long life. Ive had the exact same dash warning ... with no warning! on saturday. rang the dealers and they told me its cos the car was set to 't&d' rather than longlife at the pdi. car is now just 12 months old hence the warning.
I think that you only get the 'countdown' based on mileage and not on time, hence at 364 days you are ok, at 365 its 'service now' regardless of mileage
regards
Mark.

Mine is on time and distance and gives a mileage warning for at least 2 weeks before it was due. Only did 6k this year so was amusing to see service in 4000 miles.

Whats the difference between the 2 service modes, and can you change then yourself with Vagcom?
