Title: Stereo fault (sony single disc)
Post by: D Squared on 10 May 2008, 22:02
My CD player in my car has packed up...It switches on, displays radio stations etc, but no sound.
1 of the wires that comes out of the back of the stereo, which isn't connected anywhere has ATT written on it?? any ideas if that's needed??
Is there an amp somewhere in a mk3 golf GTi that controls/distributes the sound?

Cheers

The ATT wire is only used if you have a hands free car kit that lowers the volume of the stereo when a call comes in. There aren't any additional amplifiers in the car that distribute the sound to the speakers, it all comes straight from the stereo unless you have had an aftermarket amplifier fitted.

It could be that the amp in your stereo had packed up. Did you do any work on the car just before the sound went?

thanks for replies, i did no work prior to the sound going on the stereo, and there is no aftermarket amp fitted.
the sound was a little intermittant the day before, then just stopped, everything else works on stereo.
thanks for info on ATT, at least i don't have to worry about that...i'll just have to have a good look at all connections again, but they appear to be connected. when i took it out i was hoping to find a loose speaker connection....

the stereo is a Sony CDX-4180R
