Post by: Fatandre on 10 May 2008, 18:36

DSG no contest, if your going for the slow motion sorry 4wd golf, then get the dsg, the soundtrack is what sells the R and the burble of the sound of the throttle blipping on the paddles to go with is a real cocktail.
Also cus us boys in edition 30's need something to have a battle with . Try it , before anyone says else. Much more fun imo.

it's really a personal decision so try getting a test drive in both...

the DSG in the R32 is fantastic, as said above the noise you get from the throttle blip is seriuosly addictive

have to say, purely because my ed30 has been run in and the 2 other ed30 's id driven before from dealers we both with very few miles on the clock it was hard to notice the difference apart from 60mph onwards. But this one i have is on steroids im sure of it!.4000 rpm is where i find the ed30 has another gear or feels it does comparing the two.

Totally agree, I had a regular GTi first also, and the main difference is that top end surge the bigger turbo gives , you should try it with a remap

Try the DSG, see if you can get on with it, no point asking other people if you dont like it

I Would do gaz, but she who keeps the purse strings wont see it that way, i must admit, the fuel bill is just about ok but if i had even more power, id be even worse by putting my size 11 down even more frequently!. A mate of mine also has a black 07 ed30 chipped up to 300 horsepower and wants to come along to either santa pod or inters in convoy. he's promised me a test drive, but agree's that the ed30 is pants from a standing start because there's no traction untill u hit 50mph, and tbh id rather have the grip then constant wheel bounce if you seriously mod the thing, you'd have to do more mods like youve done already gaz, and that gets rather expensive. You cant do monsterous speeds without risking your licence in this country so its really hard also to justify. So thats why i keep telling myself.

Try both, I did.. and didn't like the DSG. The DSG won't hold up to the torque from a turbo conversion without an upgrade though.

does bigger turbo= More LAG?
especially when you are talking about a k04 turbo.

Hi you guys. Just raced a GTI with að DSG and I drive a manual one and I was faster . That means I shift faster than a DSG right?

When the car was standard I did notice that it didn't have the low-end grunt my regular GTi had(but that was runnin stage 2), but since the remap and even more so the uprated fuel pump thats changed in a big way

Manual all the way for me!! i can see the obvious benifits of DSG but I will keep the manual so I know where I stand thanks

....We've had this same discussion soooo many times and I agree that it comes down to individual preference but with DSG you can pop her into M (for Manual) and use the paddles or floor stick (or both) to always know exactly "where you stand". Furthermore your gearshifts will be always faultless and faster than humanly possible.

DSG is NOT an "auto" - It's the very best of both worlds imo.

The DSG is particularly well suited to the Mk5 R32.

He's on about a turbo conversion for it though, so its all about the DSG's ability to handle that amount of power and torque

....Ah, sorry about that! I missed the point. It must be the sunny weather

Speak to APS (highly recommended). QST also have experience but I can't recommend them.

It's very expensive doing any performance mods to a Mk5 R32 when you consider what you get in return for your hard earned dosh. Turbo'd cars deliver much greater gains or bang for yer buck.
