if you're not quick enough the polish will dry and harden and you'll be left with unsightly marks!! its a definite no no!!

Dont happen to have a pop up gazeebo do you?? lol

I do, but that needs to be used in the garden for the barby and there is no way I am letting my neighbours think I'm a complete anorak cleaning my car under one of them :D

Guess its just a clean then today (secretly a little please as its way too hot out there today to be doing LOTS of work)

alan, get some autoglym aqua wax stuff in a spray bottle, goes on and comes off a peice of cake regardless of temperature.Using a micrfibre cloth that comes with it. Will take about 45 mins tops. Just watch the drips of sweat from your nose whilst polishing!!!.

Oh and pics when you done of your sun burn

was gonna do mine again this weekend but its too hot. never wash/polish a car in direct sunlight, not a good idea.

shampoo dries and leaves water/soapy marks. polish drys too quick and does do its chemical reaction as well, then makes it harder to get off.. so ill be waiting to later on around 4pm

Still love the look of a nice clean set of Monza II's - a great choice for the GTI by VW (shame about the worming issues)

AlanD

Dont wash and wax your car in direct sunlight. Always do it in the shade.
The reason you shouldnt wash it in direct sunlight is because it will dry in an instant leaving you with water marks. Waxing in direct sunlight will not let the wax harden, which it needs to, so its pointless, plus it can harden rapidly also which would mean you would have to be really fast in buffing it off. Ideally when you put wax on you should leaving it to haze for around 30-60sec before buffing it off

Yep, I have learnt the hard way not to wash in sunlight, my car was roasting hot and I think I have made it even dirtier than it was :( ffs

It looks a complete mess now, 2 hours sweat and a few beers later and she's still a complete mess, wheels are clean tho lol

Looks like im going to have to clean her either tonight (which I dont think will happen cos of BBQ going on) or some time in the evening this week before No-Rice on Wednesday. Gotta learn the hard way I spose (how bad can it be I thought :()

I take it the dried on shampoo will come off after the next wash right?

Alan,

why dont you do the sides that are not in direct sunlight first (panel by panel), which would be the driver side on those pics, then swich the car round so its facing the other way from the garage and do the sides that are now in the shade panel by panel, passengerside. Thats how i do it. One side of your car will always be in the shade.

I always wash, ploish and wax my car panel by panel. Makes it easier.

that autoglym resin polish although is good, goes hard when the car panels are hot. like i said get some aqua wax from autoglym and youll find it will take off the dried on polish and is a peace of cake to apply and remove REGARDLESS of the temperature.
Either that or im super human

Best thing after a polish/wax is the next time you clean it - water just bobbles off and its a piece of cake to clean up.

Also this weather helps, finally being decent the car actually looks reasonably clean still after a few days

If the paint drys before you have chance to dry it yourself, you could always go round it with some quik detailer and a microfibre. Works a treat and leaves the car  And the beauty is it only takes a few minutes
