Hi,
Could you please tell me what the circled part is in the photo as I've just had the bonnet up and noticed it clicking repeatidly, similar noise to the ignition on a gas cooker/boiler. However, I turned the ignition off and back on and the noise has stopped. Being a mechanical numpty I have no idea what it is... "Water pump" maybe??? What's the clicking???

Hi - Doesn't sound normal I agree, but what is it???
-
think its the charcoal canister and the noise is perfectly normal i believe
-

-
Yep normal

lol i had a mechanic at the garage i bought my car from scratching his head about that when i was looking to buy, ended up getting an exra £100 off the car as he couldn't figure out what was wrong, glad to hear its normal! lol
-
Yup, mine does it too!
-
mine does aswell i thought mine wo knackered aswell but i got told they all do it, a little annoying tho!
-
Well as said its totally normal. I believe its to do with recovering petrol vapour........or something like that. Cycles on and off. If its off and you blip the throttle it should kick in. I believe as it gets older the ticking gets louder. Eventually it explodes..........

will it do any harm to disconnect?

It will trigger the emissions light and fault code, otherwise probably not except your emmisions might be a problem come MOT time.
