Title: mk2 with 2.0 8valve piston rings?????????????????????????

hi i am doing up a 2.0 8 valve engine out of an old passat and have a new head with a high lift cam in it but i am just wondering since i have the engine stripped i fancy putting new piston rings in it just so i know the engine will last but does anyone know i good website where i can buy piston rigns. thank you

Euro car parts may supply them although im not sure if they still do? Or you could try Motive engine components sometimes I use them for rebuilding engines. The pistons/rings are usually ok on these engines anyway depending on the history, just check the top of the bores for any ridges.... thats usually a tell tale sign for knackered piston rings and for the bores. :smiley:

well when i got the block i covered the pistons with wd40 and left it a week and cylinder 2 and 3 went dry and 1 an 4 stayed covered so suspect maybe piston rings knackered. maybe not but i dont want to put the engine together to find out the rings leak

To help save some trouble honing the cilynders could help with thing seating, also try and get some forged pistons they're more forgiving lighter and you can run more hose on them.
