Title: What is this cylinder? PICS ADDED
Post by: Mikester on 08 May 2008, 22:32
As you may or may not of read, my car got smashed into today by a van.

Aswell as body damage and rad is gone, theres a cylinder that got dented.

Its behind the drivers side fog light.

What is it? steering? brakes?

Cheers

If its what i think it is now, its a charcoal canister. Apparently it sends wasted vapours back into the fuel tank.(i only know this because i ripped one off my mate novas when i built him a 1.6 turbo lump(vauxhall filth urghh)).

when i crashed would this make a hissin noise? is it under pressure? as i thought at first it was my rad, but thinking about it, no water on the road! lol.

But i noticed this had a dent, so could it be this?

And can i run the engine with it broken?

you may be able to blank it off mate, think its only for emmissions. Have a scan through the haynes manual and see where the pipes run to and from

It will be on the road by the end of the week, until it gets the insurance funding for the full job. lol.

carbon cannister neutralises the fuel vapour before it enters the throttle body... after 100K, it does practically nothing, so many people just by-pass it anyway. car will run fine without it, but only if you connect input pipe to wherever the output pipe would go
