Hi guys.
My first post on the forum so hello everyone.
Had a few mk1's down the years but moved on from them a while back.
Looking to return back to the scene and want something different.
Im a big fan of the 150 gtdi engine and was wondering if it can go in a mk1.
Ive heard people say it is possible. If so is it a big job ?
My local mechanic is into golfs and mentioned to me a few years back that he love to do it for himself.
However, if its complex id rather get it done properly. Is there companies out there that can do it ? Im near aberdeen.
The idea would be to buy a really good complete mk1 and buy the diesel engine seperate.
I should have between 5-6k to spend initially.
Replies appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It has been done before and it's a pretty good conversion to do when you think about, modern engine, good performance and brilliant mpg in a small car. I don't know much about the conversion but it's not supposed to be one of the easier ones hence why you don't see many about, but it is doable. There was a guy that used to use this site that did it and he was user A7 UFO so if he's still about you may get some info off him about it.

Personally I would use a 130 bhp pd engine if your going to do it. Far more relaible. More mods available to uprate the engine. Far better engine overall. The trouble is with the PD lumps is they are still fetching serious money and will set you back at least 2k for the bits alone on average.

Huge huge huge project.
Here is one into a mk2 http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=37689.0
You pretty much need an entire donor car, and the lump itself is huge.. almost too big to fit in a mk2 even with custom mounts. Dread to think how you'll shoe-horn it into a mk1.
