Hey All....
My MK2 1992 1.8 16V is running just above a 1000rpm, been told by a few people its normal but not satisfied as the car feels a bit heavy on pick up, and when reving the engine it feels heavy compared to a friends 16V. I was wondering whether anyone knows of any good reliable places that can set up the timing.
Cheers

There is a fantastic place that sets up Golf GTI's but cant think of the name of it, sorry! Anyway its behind GSF in Apsley (Between Watford and Hemel) If you get there number then ask them for the name and number they will give it to you as it is literally 10 second walk from there back door. From E London its easy to get there, M25 then A41. The place is about 5 mins from A41.

Thanks Mate....
It would be really good if you can recall the name as they would prob need to book it in.....
Thanks

If your feeling saucy you can pick up a timing light off ebay for around £20 and have a go yourself. Its not that hard, honest!! Follow rubjonny's guide in the maintenance section.

On the same subject - I'm contemplating doing this myself too, but was wondering if it would be better to get one of the timing lights that can advance it a touch, rather than sticking to 6° - or is there no point in doing that?

Only need to advance beyond 6, if the head has been skimmed or you are running diff cams, p&p head etc..
If its just standard then just time to standard.
