Title: French newbie here with a Mk2 GTI 16V
Post by: uta_flyinghigh on 07 May 2008, 08:49
Hello all,

I am a member of 1gn (http://forum.1gn.org/garage.php?mode=view_vehicle&CID=185) and Coupe Club (http://www.coupe-club.co.uk/showthread.php?t=39941) and I just picked up a Mk2 Golf for the equivalent of £100. Here she is :

Nothing wrong with manual steering, takes a little while to get used to it, but once you are you won't notice the difference as it just comes naturally.

Hi and welcome

Nice car - great bargain too - how did you find one at that price? !!
I've always found 2nd hand cars expensive in France
Obviously I haven't been looking in the right places

Whereabouts in France are you?

I'm in sunny Nice, southeast France
That GTI was dirt cheap as it has some work to be done on it (exhaust blows, rear discs are warped and it failed emissions testing) and it has 210,000 km on the clock
I want to make it a stealth sleeper, i.e remove all visible GTI telltale signs and put in a CAI, a header, upgrade piping and do some major weight redux. I aim for 160/165hp and sub-900 kg weight then things could get interesting

Nice - very nice too

Sounds like you have some great plans for her - you'll have to start a project thread so we can watch progress.

Welcome to the forum.

Ever been down to Perpignan? I love it in that area; was there last year.

I haven't been to Perpignan but have lived a not far from there; in Orthez in the Southwest of France.
