Title: powder coat or spray ?

when refurbing wheels is it best to get them sprayed or powdercoated ?

hmm depends really powder coat probaly cost more but the finish will be thicker than a sprayed of coat, id go for powder coat.

powder coat will definitely be harder wearing - sprayed will probably have a nicer finish.

I would go powder coat if I were you

Powder coat any day. I bought some 5 spoke TT wheels and refurbed them using some hard-wearing black paint and then lacquered over them.

A As it was cheaper
B It was easy for me to do

However, last winter it pitted badly on the rears so the undercoat shows through - bit of a mess even though I spent ages in doing the job properly.

I did think of powder coat or possibly even stove enamalling initially but the "buggerring about"  factor came into play and I took the simpler option. Some day, I'll whip them off again and do the job right in the first place.

what is powdercoating? I sprayed my gti wheels black with primer, gloss black then laque and they seem ok. getting mk5 gti wheels soon and gonna spray them black, shall i do the same?

ok cheers for that! il speak to this spray shop and ask how much they will charge to do it, hope it's not to much!!
