as aid... theres not alot you can do! either sell and buy another or....do the normal mod's..filter,exhaust etc but dont expect loads more power as the 1.8 uses a crappy single point injection which stops good power increases!

oh dear not good

We've all been there though mate, gotta face up to it you wont be able to do much as the guys said above.

Also think about it before you spend any money on this one, i mean exhaust, a decent one your looking at 150+ or 200-300 for a decent system, then filter, which wont get you much of an increase, so might be worth saving your cash and selling this 1.8 in the near future and buy a GTi 16v or something

tbh if your car is in good condition you could probably sell it and get an 8v or a GTI for a few hundred more

luckily i bought it with the full stainless steel exhaust system already on. also all the cosmetics such as 15's and lowered suspension is all already there. So ive saved myself a bomb really. being only 17/18 too im not after much; just after a little bit more to keep me satisfied :). Tbh im more than happy with the car; was just weighing up all my options to see if i could push my boundaries a bit :). Thanks for all the feedback...after looking around, turns out this has been a question asked on many different occasions :P.

Most likely

Well all id do then is add a K&N panel, dont bother forking out on an induction unless your really that bothered about it sounding louder.
You can also drill a few holes in the standard airbox, thats meant to improve air flow and make it sound abit better on the cheap(although dont randomly drill holes, check with someone on here where to drill)
Other than that id leave it then, taking your current situation into account

*tried the old insurance on a gti 8v and 16v...they stopped me at the 8v :P. haha.* one day. started on the ole 1.4, working my way up the ladder*

you all give up to easily!!! thats why we never see any mentaly tuned golf engines!!
Ok you got a 1.8L  So this is what your gunna do...

Full overhaull first, all new components, fit a 2.0L head with a decent camshaft, have it gasflowed, the ports are alredy bigger..  bolt on four side draft webber carbs,  good 4-2-1 manifold, full zaust system.

There u go... ur gunna have a 1.8L engine that is a hell of alot more fun,  And well worthy of geting the bonnet up at a show

On the other hand,  Get creative with a welder and a bit of engine work,  fit a Nice T3 turbo charger, or a superchager, that would be easier.   Run it on ITBs and a megasuirt ECU   Me and my mate did this to a 1.4 and that would eat a 1.8L for breakfast (im not saying it wouldnt blow up with in seconds of doing so tho...!!)  but it was very very powerfull for what it was.

So imagen the potential of a 1.8 block,  Ok its SPI which is crap but that can be binned and Throttle bodies or Carbs can easiliy be fitted.

.... Now every one will say why bother when u can get a GTI..   Well there is no good answer to that,  why bother indeed.  Personaly i would do it purly because its a totaly indivudualy custom made/tuned engine,  but im not the one doing it.

has a 2.0L 8v got multi point injection then?
