just changed head gasket and timen belt on my 1990 gti 16v and now it wont idle unlesss under load can any one help

The first thing I would do if I were you is use the search function on MK2 section & the Garage sections as they may bear more fruit and also keeps you busy while waiting for people with constructive posts to reply.  :smiley:

First thing to check has to be the timing, I dont know about a 16v but 8s are timed not at idle but under load, maybe this is an area you could look at.

ok cheers will do dont know wot else 2 try tyed adjusting the timen but doesnt help much

cant believe it its took me 3wks 2 figger out the inlet manifold wasnt tight enough :embarassed:
