my blowers blow fine but wont change direction properly, theyl happily blow full on my window, or into myfootwell, but if i want to have them blowing out into the car about 2 3rds of the blow still points into the footwell and the tiny bit left blows out the front, its not so bad right now but i can see it getting really annoying once it gets hotter, which bit is likely to be stuck and how much of my dash needs to come out for me to see and fix whatever it is?? mk2 16v pain in the rear

If you remove the centre console you can access the cogs that control the direction of the flow of air. At the base of the dash, you'll have to sort of look underneath, but you should then be able to see them. What happened with mine was that one had fallen out. I of course pushed it back in but the cogs were aligned incorrectly. This would then allow me to have the blower on the windscreeen of footweel but not front vents.
Have a look and a wiggle. If that doesnt do it, it may be due to snapped/broken/loose cables.
good luck
P.s its a nightmare in the summer without them!!

There was a post not too long ago saying that the little pieces of foam that seal the flaps that direct the air perish over time, meaning the air can leak out in the direction you don't want it to go in. May be worth checking that too.
