Post by: maxamus on 04 May 2008, 21:18
Ok im after replacing my side lights and my indicator lights.
Which type of bulbs does it take for the side lights, H1, H3, H4, H7 or H11?

Which one for the lights in the wing mirrors...?

Sure its not H7?
Well according to this article (http://www.headlightbulb.co.uk/2008/02/upgrade-to-mk5-golf-gt-tdi-review.html) i dug up it says:

"....The Golf MK5 uses H7 for both the main and side beams which made my life easier as I didn't have to try differen't bulbs in different sizes."

I should of mentioned i dont have xenons

LEDs come up in search because everyone wants em so puts the page ranking up. they are normal sidelight bulbs too..

main lights are one ones on the outside.
side lights are like parking lights... small bulbs in the line across the bottom of the headlight... argh hard to explain at this time of night..  me tired

I think the lights (non-xenon's) in the MK5 must be of either H1, H3, H4, H7 or H11 type.
If you have a look at the thread below this one people say they are using Osram Night Breaker and Philips Blue Vision bulbs and they only come in "H" types...

Got some Phillips X-treme power form here (came out top in the headlamp bulb test)

http://www.powerbulbs.com/

They were for the wifes car. So I can't comment on what they are like on the Golf. However, they are much brighter and whiter than the OEM bulbs which were Osram.

Just put 2 new ones in my car (Non Xennon) and I can confirm that both the main head light and the high beam bulbs are H7's.
If you look at the head light unit you can see 3 bulbs, a small wedge bulb (which is a right twit to get out) this is the side light bulb (one on the inner side of the unit). The main head light and the high beam halogen bulbs are the H7 bulb. I hope this makes sense!

Thanks.
Just ordered a set of Philips Blue Vision and some free Philips Blue Vision W5W
Will get VW to put them on when my car goes in for service in the next few weeks.
