As above, almost finished one wheel, am going to put a red outer rim on it I think but am starting to have doubts about the satin black now...
its for a track day car - what do you reckon?

Looks alright mate, maybe a polished lip would look better than the red one?
-
yeah didn't think of going polished, but would probably be a bit of a b***h as they are only 1 piece so would be fiddly and a PITA I think....
this is where I got the idea of a red lip from

cant see the red lip?? :undecided:
-
think they will look mean on a track day car
-
i've got these wheels on my colour concept, they're also in need of a refurb!! how long did it take you to do this one?? and where did you get those wheel centre caps from??
-
it took me about 3 hours to do one wheel, although I started with the best condition one.
Every one does it differently, but I use P38 easy sand on any bits that need sorting, rather than spending ages sanding I just used a dremmel with a grinding bit on and any bits where the paint had lifted just blasted it off with the dremmel and then fill. Sanded the rest down starting with 120, then 400 then 600.
I then used a high build primer which is good at covering any scratch marks from sanding. Did 3 coats of primer, then really really lightly rubbed it down with 1200. You have to be light as the primer comes off really easily, once super smooth clean with white spirit and spray very lightly with top coat, hardly even covering it. Then apply 3/4 more heavy coats untill you have a nice even finish etc...
this is what I am kind of aiming for

I like the full satin black...(and i would be keeping them without the red lip!)....
-
is anyone else liking them in the yellow primer??
Do look good in black though. Need some nice laquer.
-
lol, i thought mine looked good with the yellow primer too.
-
seems no one likes the red lip idea but me then
I wasn't going to laquer them purely because it makes it so much easier if they get chipped/kerbed etc on a trackday I can just whip the wheel off and patch a repair and spray them satin again
-
I like! very much.
What paint do you use for these? Normal car paint?
-
I used hycote hybuild primer and satin black....
got them all done now but no tyre places open to get the tyre's swapped over
how frustrating!!!!
-
Looks good mate. Hmm dunno about the red lip espaecially on a blue car. Might not look quite right. But you've done a really good job. Think i might do mine in the next few weeks.
-
well one of them needs redoing as Im not 100% happy with it so I am going to stick a red lip on it 2 moro and see what I think....
cheers for the comments, im really pleased with them, even if my fingers are red raw from all the intricate sanding
-
i would use the small 4mm red tape you can get off the bay to sort out the rims mate!
-
yeah did think of that as my mate uses it on his hornet - rim tape.
makes washing them a PITA and an area for dirt to collect, used to be a painter and decorator so not too mcu bother to tape a neat curve and spray it
-
Think these will look nice when done, even with the red lip. If its what you wanna do do it, as long as you like it, thats what counts, dare to be different
-
Great looking job on the wheel prep. Something i keep wanting to do myself but just don't seem to get the time!
I think the red looks alright, but makes me think of Jap cars for some reason.
How about a gunmetal silver lip?

to compare...

I have always liked black wheels with red rims ever since I had the original GT on playstation and you could swap the wheels over!!! lol
I did actually try to start the red lip yesterday but I just didn't have the patients to tape it all so gave up on it lol am going down to the tyre place to get the tyre's swapped and am just going to stick the wheels on as they are for now....
those BBS CH's look nice with a silver rim!!!! I love those wheels
-
well I had two of the tyres swapped over so I could see what they looked like on the car, and I am really happy with them!!!! way better than I was expecting and am just going to keep them like this

Looks damn good, much better than the ones in your sig aswell
Just need some of this for the tyres and your laughing http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=30
-
cheers guys, I am over the moan with them. Actually starting to look like a track day car now!!! lol
When I did the calipers I did them silver which looked nice with the standard wheels but it seems like it needs something a bit more now so may go with red, match the 16 badges etc
tyres will be getting replaced when Im back off holiday so hopefully new one's will look nicer!!
