Title: bugger.. I have a brake problem
Post by: Rmachines on 03 May 2008, 16:10
I have rounded off the rear caliper retainer bolts (the big ones)

They will NOT Budge,  is there a trick to get these off as they are star keys and totaly mushed  :undecided:

Cheers.

i did the same on my old mk3 8v and had to get a welder on it to get em off.
weld a bolt on its tricky but normally the only way.

what you need is a set of irwin bolt grippers, the best specialist tool I have ever used

http://www.amazon.com/IRWIN-394001-Bolt-Grip-Remover/dp/B0000CCXVZ

I have these and the expansion set which in total is over £60's worth but they are amazing

they are worth the 30 quid for the main set for sure.

Even if you can't get them on straight and you are doing it at an angle they just bite in and get tighter and tighter till the nut starts turning, really good quality too
