Title: Getting my head unit out
Post by: chillie_grub on 03 May 2008, 11:54
Another question :P. My alpine head unit came with my new car. I think it requires of on them key tools to get it out? Tried my mates but it didnt work. Need to get in the back for the preouts. Is there different keys for different brands? Or different keys for different headunits...or are they all universial and im facing another problem?

You'd need keys specific to Alpine units,Halfords should have some on stock, just go down there with the model number and they should be able to help out

I always use metal BBQ meat skewers, never fail to get any head unit out.

No good for modern Alpine units,I'm positive they are a flat key that goes in at the top of the unit,at least they are on my wifes one.

A standard pair of knives you eat with works most of the time (you must have some of them!). All the keys do is push in a certain part of the head unit cage to release the head unit. Just wiggle the knives around a bit until you find the right place to poke. Cheaper, quicker & easier.
