i plan to do both conversions, but unsure what do first, i know you lot hate jap etc, but for those who know me, know how much i love my faithfull swift GTI which iv owned since 1995!!
my swift is currently 152 bhp, plan to turbo it to 220bhp is and end up with something like the perfomance of the one in the link below where theirs a swift with the conversion ill do up against a porsche turbo...will let you look at the rusult of the race for yourselves
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTwjYQY-t6Y&feature=related
in my golf i plan to drop a 225bhp 20v T lump in it, but as the golf is my daily its will be harder to get the time till i get the swift on the road, as thats been stored for a few years and im in the middle of re building parts of the engine, hence why im thinking of turbo time for that first, i plan on taking the swift to 1/4 mile days etc...
what you lot think i should do first out of the 2?
-
sounds like you have answered your own ?? lol
you can't do the golf first as you can't have it off the road as the swift is in bits? so you would have to do that first..... otherwise you will have no car to get around in???
sell the swift - spend the £Â£Ã‚£ sorting the rest of the golf, giving you an awesome machine... 1/4 mile drag racing is ghey imo, turbo the mk3 to the max and get doing some track days
-
yeah i know what you mean about selling the swift, and doing the golf mental stylee, thing is i cant let the thing go as iv had her soooo long, too long infact... i really need to get the 20vt in the golf tho
-
Dont sell the swift mate, you'll not get any where near what you've spent on it!
Id be tempted to turbo the swift just for the shere mentalist speed you'll have but....................
Mk3's with 1.8T's are
Rich
-
yeah your soo right rich matey, and thats exactly why i wanna turbo it, just for the hell of it, :)
deffo gonna do the golf though, has to be done, i have the swifts engine in bits at the mo, its now on axle stands in the garage u saw it in at my mums.... which is where the golf will under go its conversion too...
-
Id go with the Swift, almost had one for my first car (GTI of course). I love little pocket rockets that can put the rich geezers on their 911's etc to shame at a fraction of the cost!
-
I have had my mk3 for four years, not driven it for 18 months due to company cars and varies other things etc, should have sold it really but just couldn't bring myself to, there is something about the car that I just love and means I can't get rid so started turning in into something useful!!!! aka track day car...
if you can't sell the swift and have done loads and loads to it, then keep it to run around in whilst doing the 1.8T conversion on the mk3.... the swifts are fun cars, scarily quick but I still think a mk3 will be able to handle more power without being as sketchy and once the standard stuff is replaced with decent kit they can really handle!!!
-
Sell the MK3 & Swift, buy a MK1 GTi with a 1.8ST conversion
-
hahah, had the little swift too long dont think i could let her go, such a great car, best iv ever had, yeah its not as well bult as a dub, yeah you would die if you crashed in it haha and yeah its jap (but i love jap)
its also like driving a skateboard, the steering is stiff as hell but i love how raw it is and if you heard how it sounds you would know why i love the engine so much, i must try get a recording of it so u can hear it for yourselves...mean is a understatement
it handles much better than my dropped mk 3, and my old mk2 16v and its super fast and sooooo much fun.
over the years its had a stupid amount of money thrown at it, too much in fact, i should have sold it years ago but those people who have had a car so long will know how hard it is to let go.
it must be one of the best exaples left in the uk as most have rusted away or whatever...although mine is not standard looking by a long shot, its pretty wild infact..
on the suzuki forum some of the purists are saying i should leave it N/A as it will still beat most things on the 1/4 mile and ill get more respect this way as most folk are wise to the turboed swifts and arer also getting scared to be up against them...
found some awsome american web sites where u can get soo many parts for them, and take the engine to a reliable 350 BHP...bloody mental or what!!!! in such a small car, theirs even 4wd conversions you can do...
-
Pics of the Swift are needed tbh
-
i wasnt gonna post pics as it really is anti VW and i will leave myself open for jibes i dont want to really hear   as im not looking for negatives on the cars looks....its all about the engine now, but fook it here is a couple of snaps
She was re bult to this latest guise (after many others) in the year 2000, and has been dry stored since 2004.
Genuine evo vent welded in not no tacky fake, all swages lines on bonnet removed too.
genuine audi door handles and genuine transporter vent too showing my VAG side haha

hehe thanx matey, engine is gonna be even better soon, getting full samco hose kit specially made up as they dont make a kit for it, a group buy on the swift forum.. plus im gonna strip the engine and go into even more detail with it
-
Well although it is not to my taste, I can certainly admire the amount of time,e ffort and obv £Â£Ã‚£ you have spent on it. Everything has been done to a top standard, and that engine bay is my favorite bit!!!!
I personally wouldn't be seen dead in it ha ha.... but thats just me!!!!
Get a 1.8T into your MK3, the swift has been done to the max, time for something new!!!! you could try and find a 1.8T MK3 near you and blag a test drive to see what it is like before you decide
-
hehe thanx matey, i totally understand what your saying
i just got back from MJ interiors, and now MJ is wanting me to race him, against his mk2 with a rear mounted 20V t!!! he wants me to get the turbo fitted as he dont believe me when i tell him how rapid they are
