A few swirls i spotted but dont know if thats excessive and worth having it detailed by a pro.
-
get it detailed - you'll be amazed at the difference
-
you may struggle to get it more shiny, but those swirls need to go !! , i think a pro would get rid of the marks, protect and seal the paint and give you a good base to continue yourself
-
cheers blue, im gonna start saving some pennys, it amazes me how well red polishes up, compared to metallic colours ive had previously.
-
The sun shows up those swirls quite well in Photos 1 & 3
As we get into Summer they will be be more evident in the sun (if we ever get any sun that is!)
A machine polish will get rid of them quite easily and then a good washing technique should keep you swirl free
-
Porter Cable 7424 or the Meguiars G220 will sort that out, photos 1 and 3 the swirls are very clearly visible.
Looking good though, fully detailed it will look "wet"!

Red would have been my other choice, its just the dealer had a White one ready to go, if he has red too it would have been a hard choice , if you lived close to me i would help you out with it

You had a new tyre fitted at the back Phil? Picture 4
-
yes tagnut, fitted 2 new rear dunlop Sportmax's today for £87.50 each. Kept in keeping with the same brand of tyres in the end.

Why not save up the pennies for a machine polisher and some detailing goodies and do it yourself

Me personally...i dont trust myself...wouldnt wanna ruin my car!

In that case you want to take a peek on detailing world and get a few tips
In the sunnier climate you have down there the swirl marks will become noticeable fairly quickly if you don't stick to a good cleaning regime.

Manu - you have a pm.

After watching a 'pro' at work last week, and having a little go myself im a lot more confident that I could do it myself! With a proper polisher you'd have to stay on the same area for hours to burn through the laquer (so im told). So go for it! I've worked out the equipment would pay for iteself after 1 detail  So well worth a try. And to be honest I think Im as fussy as most of the detailers out there (if not more ) so im confident I'd do as good a job! May practice on the wifes first though  I'd recommend getting a pro in to do the first one and get as many tips as you can, then go for it!!

Good job Phil - very nice results. Concur with the comments here - professional detailing will get rid of the swirls and a good cleanse/polish/waxing will give the paintwork a wetter look with even more depth of shine. A rotary polisher is a handy tool and shouldn't put you off doing it yourself, but unless you have done this before and understand the right grade of pads and polish/waxes to use, I'd let the pro's do it first. You can watch of course , and they are happy to give up a few tips of the trade as they go through each process. A BIG word of caution though - once you start down this route, it can become very compulsive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought myself a UDM about 6 months ago, I was a little wary of using it but now ive practised on my MK2 im more than happy to use it on my MK5. Just need some more tips on what products to use on my black GTI
-
YEH udm or one of the other popular random orbital based machines are pretty easy to use, and wont burn though paint as some people worry about

Iv had a look on detailing world numerous of times but call me daft but i just dont get it...when i used to clean the black GTI i always used to leave dirt marks all over the car and even when i tried to use polish i used to leave very little bits of like white swirls all over the car...lol...maybe a sticky about cleaning/detailing would be good
