Went round a roundabout the other day and my steering just would not let me complete the turn. it just locked up and went hard, tried my upmost to avoid a van waiting for me to exit the roundabout.
I heard this is a common fault with golfs in the rain. apparently the PAS belt gets wet and slips slightly causing this to happen?
Is this true and is there anything that can be done to resolve this?
any info is greatly appreciated.

and the belt squeeks alot when wet too! Ive just had my cambelt done and fan belt and PAS belt was changed at the same time. I know its on tight, but could it be too tight?
-
You can get a splash guard that helps protect the belt from getting soaked.

You just have to replace the belt! simple.
-
well then wont the new belt have the same problem?
Where can i get a splash guard from? expensive???
-
and the current PAS belt is only a month old! if that
-
try and tighten the belt if its new...worked on mine and i dont have the rain cover!
-
toady it was rainign so hard i couldnt see the end of my bonnet, and i still made a corner at 50, lol!
and i dont have the guard, or new belt.

Can anyone post a part number for the belt splash guard? I don't have ANY splashguards on my car right now and the rain really gets to my power steering.
I hate when it locks up as I am trying to do a bit of spirited driving.
