Title: lighting
Post by: SteveS on 01 May 2008, 10:12
touching on what Altered Carbon started. I want to change most of the lights to a white rather than a tacky yellow.
Im going to use LED lights, will i get a bulb warning light or anything?

1 Interior Courtesy light (are these the long ones or 501 bulbs?)

2 Puddle light (501?) 12v, w6w63(dont think that means much)
> to remove, rush wing mirror fwd (back to front of car) and it shows a screw, remove and prise out.

3 Side light (501 again?)
> Im also not sure what kind of light should be put here. a fwd facing light or an all round one, as when you look at the headlight when on, it seems to reflect all the way round the headlight?
> getting to the side light is a biatch, cant get in the hole at the back to twist it out... !!

I swapped my side light bulbs for a pair of Phillips Blue Vision bulbs. What a change much better. Much whiter, not blue at all.  I got them free when I ordered a set of Phillips X-treme power for the wifes car.

Before ( old side light bulbs)

New side light bulbs.

Just had to move this out of the way to get to the off side bulb. It makes the job much easier.

Leds don't work. You get a bulb out on the MFD.

To get the bulbs out get hold of both wires at the base and pull.

busy topic hay....

i emailed various people including crazyleds.co.uk and they all said there wont be an issue, crazyleds even said they had put them in a mk5 golf... but yet i read places saying they will cause error... so i dont know whats the right answer....?

do the wing mirror lights affect the blown error circuit?

Guys, Iv got upgraded ones (side lights and parking lights) in my MK4, H7 (I think!!!?) will these fit on my shiny new MK5?

Iv got the same ones you guys are talking about, the Phillips blue vision ones, got them from that bowerbulbs website.

if you got bulbs 501s then any car... h7 is the smaller headlight bulb, used for fogs and things, maybe ur dipped headlight?

Ah it probs wasnt H7, I was just going on memory from what I saw when I ordered them (ive got shocking memory)

These are what I have on my dipped (yeah, got the name wrong lol) - http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=81

and these on the side lights - http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=31

Will these go on the MK5?

i dont know what bulbs are in the normal headlights, (i have xenons) so dont use those type.
The side lights are fine, Got any pix of them on your car?

I do at home, Im just sitting in the office at the mo counting down till tomorrow morning :D

They make a world of diffrence on MK4 which has candles as standard. If these dont fit I will probably buy the upgrades for the MK5 as these aftermarket bulbs really do improve the light for us without xenons.

yeah side lights dont tho, they just look nice and allow ppl to see you... mine glows yellowish around the bottom, and when my xenons are on, which are white makes it look cheep again

Yeah, its the same on the MK4, its worth getting them, makes it look much better. Must be a VW thing having yellow sh!te lights as sidelights.

yeah, im kinda giving up with the LEDS even tho they are much better/brighter/whiter/last longer because of the hassle. it seems if you want to use them you have to put in a resistor (few kits around) so that the wiring thinks theres more of a load.

i dont want any blue tinge bulbs however, and i think yours are are they not??? if i could see you pix then i might just get those :(

Just got a set (only 2) of Osram Night Breaker lights (they are delivered from Ossett in West Yorks, my home town!) and I fitted 1 of the free Phillips blue Vision W5W bulbs. They are blue in colour but do not light up blue! One other thing..... why do VW put great bulb holders in the indicator and main head light but sh!tty impossible to get out ones in the side lamp and main beam? Hand are cut to bits trying to get the small side light bulbs out

Which Osram Night Breaker bulbs did you get?
H1, H3, H4, H7 or H11?

Also, did you buy these: Philips Blue Vision Ultra 4000K +30% ?

and which of the two would you recommend?
