The heater fan's been squeaking on my Mk2 16V ever since I bought it, and I finally got ragged off enough to go find the fan and WD-40 the biatch today.
Having been relieved to find that the fan's easy to get at, I can't however get the little screw cap thing off the top of the fan so that I can oil it properly.
Any advice on how to get this off.
Thanks.

Don't bother dismantling it. I just removed mine, removed the electrical socket, then doused it all with WD40 and left it to settle overnight. Got rid off all the squeaks.
My last fan didn't take nicely to be taken apart, the ring on the top just prys off (and back on again).

i have done mine about 4 times now cuz the wd-40 thing aint a perm fix. think its time to buy a new one. anyone know the cheepest place.

The ghetto version of fixing this is to just spray WD40 down the cold air intake hole near the bottom of the windscreen on the passenger side - if you look down it you can see the top of the heater fan. You'll need a careful aim though, but it'll save all the dismantling of the dash trays etc.
Like I said... Ghetto.

Hey...
Mine is doing the same but just not had the time to get around to doing it. Saves me the time, but where is the fan located.
Thanks

On the passenger side under the glove box. You will probably need to remove the shelf, it comes out after twisting it, can't remember which way.

you need to lift a tab then twist the whole assembly
