Title: mk1 golf 280mm brake upgrade?

can anyone advise me on the best/easiest/cheapest way of fitting 280mm brakes to a mk1 gti. i bought some spacer brackets but they dont seem to fit with standard calipers. anyone had this problem before?? would rather have something more substantial that brackets as its fast!!!. cheers.
