Title: Quaife LSD
Post by: Hurdy on 29 April 2008, 15:23
Anyone thought of getting one on here yet?

Just been quoted £1,433 inc vat and fitting for a ATB LSD for the DSG box, but I'm a bit hesitant.

Anyone had any other quotes and from whom?

What exactly gets replaced when you get something like this - the complete insides, clutches etc or just bits?

My god thats the biggest pic in the world

So surely if you were doing this would you be better off upgrading the clutch packs too - if there are some available?

....Yes, I'm seriously considering it too when my warranty expires. My chats with my trusted guy reckon on about £1k all included.

You won't need upgraded clutches on the DSG just because of an ATB diff - In fact general DSG wear will be improved IIRC.

Here's an earlier thread with some info:- http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=71275.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=71275.0)

while there in the box it may be a good idea to swop the clutch over

....If I recall correctly, Quaife advised me that it wasn't at all necessary to change clutches on the DSG box. Also, on the DSG box of tricks at least, the ATB (LSD) is not at a deep level.

was meaning more for manual users

I thought that £1400 was a little steep. The diff is just under £700 and so £700 for fitting seems a little on the heavy side.

....If I do it, the guy I will use is Jim at JKM and he will want to keep the car for a day after just to make absolutely sure all is as it should be. He has fitted plenty of Quaife and Peloquin diffs but not to a Mk5 DSG Golf.

Yeah JBS are in the same situation. Lots of manual LSD's fitted, but no DSG versions.

Only guy I've heard of having one fitted is Ross Luffingham, who has an ED30 DSG with a Quaife diff. I'll have to see if I can get in contact with him to get some info.

Hurdy - Go for it!  A mate of mine in Dubai raced in the local Golf GTI series and he reckons the LSD had the biggest effect on his lap time - 2-3 seconds off on a 1:15 lap with the better traction.

....Only two other words excite Hurdy more than "better traction" and those are "carbon fibre"!

I think £700 is a bit steep to fit also,is the diff not in a separate housing,i.e remove drive shafts, half moon casing and lsd will be no more wider bulkier than normal diff, nothing to do with gears or cluch packs!!! Dont get me wrong, big job, just emagine your diff goes, its not a total new gearbox,DSG or Manual, manufacturer's make them so they can be replaced indervidually, and a quaife lsd is more complex than standard, but built to the same size.

My Gsxr K51000 has a slipper clutch as standard, although you can buy a off the shelf slipper clutch for many bikes at a cost£300 i think,ie Gsxr k41000,but you dont have to buy a new gearbox/clutch.

Dont be ripped off hurdy, but get one!!!!

Chris.
