Got a very cheap ebay copy of the Haynes "You and Your Golf GTI" book at the weekend.
Not worth the £18  cover price and even I managed to pick a few holes in the text, but some good stuff for those interested in the history/development of Mks 1-3. Mk4 still in production when it was printed, so less detail there.
Anyone recommend any other Golf reading?

I have 'VW Golf' by James Ruppert thats pretty good but was also printed before the mk4 has lots of data sheets for all the jettas ventos and roco's as well

Haynes Improve and modify GOLF and JETTA inc GTI by Lindsay Porter and Dave Pollard
