Hi,
My 8v 1.8 digifant gti is not feeling so well at the moment.
When i pull away at low revs in first (around 2k) the car sputters and lurches frantically back and forth as if the very engine is trying to rock itself free of the engine bay! It gets worse when the engine heats up and i have started to notice it happen at the lower revs in second.
The only way i am getting around this is to floor it from take off or slip the clutch (but that is going to burn it out!).
I took it to a mechanic and they said it might be the air intake monitor so i changed that but no luck.
HELP PLEASE!!!

Probably worth giving the timing a check. Details are in the mk2 maintenance section

Try unpluging the blue temp sender!
-
Check for any air leaks around the inlet hoses and any vacuum hoses in the engine bay.
Have you run a tank of petrol with injector cleaner through it?
Have you checked the condition of the rotor arm, leads, coil and spark plugs?

Ive checked - All hoses are ok.
Mechanic replaced plugs, coils and rotor arm.
I have run 2 bottles of redex through the car and some air intake cleaner through the air box.

just tried disconnecting the blue sender but the car didnt even turn over with it removed.
