heard of an 18 year old getting insured on a mk2 golf gti for 2000 on his own policy so i thought i mite have a look round see if i can find a quote like that so i started with money supermarket and got lowest of 2450 with ecar i think it was then i went to try hic and noticed it said you had to be 19 or over to get a quote is there any way round this or is hic off limits till im 19

If he had a years no claims and no points I don't think it sounds too unreasonable..... Plus he might live in the middle of the forest of dean (no crime), keep it in a garage with floodlights/guard towers/guard dogs/etc, have added his dad as a named driver, never drives it to work, and has a policy limited to 27 miles a year. Or if the car was old enough he might have got a classic car policy or something.
So many factors affect your insurance quotes... "18 years old" and "golf gti" don't mean much at all really by themselves....
