Title: brake conversion
Post by: Rmachines on 26 April 2008, 21:24
Ok i knew a few people here have done this so you might be able to help me.

Im putting my early GTI Brakes onto my Late 1.4.   Now are the drive shafts the same?  I was under the impression the 1.4 had smaler splines but might be wrong!

Also When converting to disk, do i need the whole handbrake cable from the GTI?  Other than that is it just a direct replacement?

Cheers.

hi i dont see what the drive shaft size has to do with it,if your converting to rear disc you will need to change the master cylinder the spliter the rear brake lines and stub axel and yes the hand brake cable.the front much easier just disc calliper and pads,iv converted 2 mk1 and a few mk2 to rear disc it sounds harder than it is good luck..

My caliper retaining bolts are diffrent i think, i thought the hub was diffrent... I have taken the whole hub off and changing it over like that.   If its just a case of changing the disk and the caliper that would be much easyer!!!
